OCA South West

Under the umbrella of the Open Canoe Association, the OCA Southwest was set up to promote open canoeing in our area.

Our aims are to
  • Teach the paddling skills needed to take the British Canoeing Personal Performance Awards and to be assessed on them, and to help you to progress further if you want to.
  • Teach the traditional skills associated with the open canoe, such as; poling, sailing, camping using a tarp/tent and even fire lighting.
  • Promote the understanding of moving water, how to paddle and what to look out for on moving water.
  • Promote safety on the water, and to help you look after yourself and others
  • Teach throw line skills, knot tying and basic survival techniques
  • Organise paddling and fishing trips at sea
  • Assist in finding help with skills we are unable to provide ourselves
But most of all our aim is to have FUN

The OCA South West Facebook Group is an active community where local trips are planned.
