Local conditions

Tim Gent's picture

Hi - Apologies, not directly about the trip itself, but wondered if you have any advice on current conditions on this stretch? I'm planning a trip on the same route over the bank holiday weekend, which I did in October a few years back. I know the river varies quite a bit : some stretches were very low when I last did it. Any issues now?

(I paddle a wooden boat so will put in below Jackfield rapids and be keen to avoid any scrapes!).

Thanks - hope the main event goes well!

Hi Tim,

Gary Rice's picture

Hi Tim,
The stretch from iron bridge is a lovely two day touring paddle.
Jackfield even at low water you can keep to the Centre Chanel and avoid any scrapes.
Below Jackfield is a gentle paddle with ice cream stops where you fancy.
Hope this helps and you have a great paddle.

Thanks Gary - that's good to

Thanks Gary - that's good to know. Of course, it would be nice to be at Canoefest next weekend, but sadly not to be!

Mind the shallows...

Tim Gent's picture

Just did this stretch today (I know, why am I not at Canoefest ... I asked myself that too). Really great paddle, but there are lots of shallows - had to get out a few times. Advise not overloading your canoe, and take a cheap plastic paddle!

Campsite

Having looked at the map, the campsite does not appear to be next to the river. What are the arrangements for getting gear from the river to the site?

I'm confused now, do we

Sue Tadman's picture

I'm confused now, do we paddle with camping gear (loaded boats) or shuttle gear to the site from the start?

No we day paddle from one campsite.

Returning after shuttle to same campsite.

Ok, think I've got it, thanks

Sue Tadman's picture

Ok, think I've got it, thanks:

Day 1: shuttle boats from site to river at Ironbridge and cars to Bridgnorth for return to site

Day 2: shuttle boats to river at Bridgnorth and cars to Bewdley

Is that it?

I will book for both nights but may arrive early Sat AM. What time would I need to be there by?

Yes, that's about it.

Yes, that's about it.

You could probably meet at Ironbridge about 9.30am ish.

Once you've booked on we'll contact you with details of where and when to meet if you're coming Saturday morning.
