General notes: The aim of the weekend is to explore the 32 miles of the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal from Brecon to Pontymoile basin at Pontypool. Meandering through the Welsh countryside the isolated Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal is one of the most popular attractions in the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful canals in the UK, following the line of the lovely wooded Usk Valley, it is a true hidden gem. Peaceful and rural, with a flavour of times gone by, it's often voted Britain's prettiest canal. Its location makes it a haven for wildlife and a favourite with nature-lovers.
It will involve a night's camp along the route and portaging 6 locks along the way as well as a portage from the canal to the campsite, so a portage trolley is highly recommended. You will also need a British Canoeing/Home Nations membership card or temporary Canal & River Trust licence for the weekend.
For safety/supervision purposes, I am limited to a leader to participant ratio of 1:8 people so places will fill on a first come, first served basis for those already possessing appropriate and/or WW and open water skills. The weekend is open to SCC, WCC and OCA members. Please note that this is a lead and not a coached trip so you will need to have the appropriate skills and equipment. If other coaches/leaders join me, I can allow additional participants to join the trip. For safety/supervision purposes, please consider yourself as only having a tentative place when responding until I have confirmed that you have a definite place.
Please do not click going/attending as this is not part of my booking system (I am unable to disable the function and do not monitor it). If you want to participate, please me at email@example.com
