The Open Canoe Symposium is back in Scotland and at Glenmore Lodge in 2015. This popular event brings together canoeists of all levels experience and abilities.
This event moves round the country and comes back to Glenmore Lodge every three years. The event is run and organised by Dave Rossetter (Head of Paddlesports, Glenmore Lodge), Nancy Chambers (Senior Instructor, Glenmore Lodge) and Scott Simon (Instructor, Glenmore Lodge). All three are Level 5 Canoe Coaches and enjoy the fantastic world of the Open Canoe.
There is a collection of practical workshops run by experienced coaches who all give their time for free. You get the chance to exchange experiences with other paddlers, you can try out new boats, purchase equipment from trade stands and generally have a fantastic time with other open boaters.
Before & immediately following the weekend, the OCA has arranged some of the best opportunities of the year:
- Jules Burnard will be offering a journey from Crianlarich to Perth via the Rivers Dockart & Tay (including Loch Tay).
- Ken Hughes will be offering what should be a contender for the most outstanding course of the year: an Advanced White Water Strategies for River Running and Rescue in Canoes programme.
- At the same time, Matt Thompson will be offering what should be a contender for the most outstanding guided trip of the year: Northwest Journey – Canoe journey through an iconic landscape.
