Open Water Safety & Rescue c/o Glenmore Lodge

A definitive list of British canoe classics would be littered with - and perhaps headed by - great open water journeys.  In the right conditions, many are perfectly manageable by ordinary, everyday tripping and journeying canoeists working together in peer groups.

Sadly, despite taking in tripping environments which are considerably more serious than anything to be found on rivers... the skills and judgement needed to tackle them independently are rarely tackled IN those environments.

Following discussions early in 2015, Dave Rossetter - Head of Paddlesports at Glenmore Lodge - offered to address this situation with a series of memorable journeying opportunities around Cumbrae - with Bute, Arran and the Firth of Clyde as a stunning backdrop.

This third one is over two days, based out of Cumbrae - and offering a unique and innovative programme:

Now we are offering more open water and coastal canoeing courses at Glenmore Lodge and Cumbrae we are seeing a need for looking in more depth at Safety & Rescue on Open Water - at a level to compliment and extend British Canoeing Five Star Leadership training.
We will spend time looking at what we carry along with how we carry it. Once we know what we need, we will then put it the test by working through scenario-based sessions on the water.

We will be covering self-rescue, deep-water rescues, towing and much else.

Dave Rossetter will be staffing these courses.  Book by telephone through Glenmore Lodge.

Ps. In time these will be on the Glenmore Lodge website - book now referencing the OCA site if you want to secure a place!
